I love using my podcast as a way to network and grow my business. If you’re not using your podcast as a networking tool to take your relationships to the next level, you should absolutely start. Today, I’m sharing four reasons to use your podcast to grow your community and your business.

My approach to networking

First, I don’t approach marketing the traditional way where I’m looking to meet people only with the goal of ‘what can you do for me?’ That feels gross and transactional. I approach networking as community building.

I want people in my community that I actually want to work with, either as a collaborator or as a client. So I’m first looking for people I like, who are kind, interesting, knowledgeable. And then, if it makes sense, I think about how we can mutually support each other.

Podcasting as a Networking Tool

If you approach networking as building a community of people you want to support and be supported by, then having a platform like a podcast is perfect for growing your network.

Here are 4 reasons why you should use your podcast to grow your network":

1.       Take your relationship to the next level

When you genuinely like someone, you have a way to deepen your relationship by offering them something valuable, like being a guest on your podcast. It’s an easy way to say, “We vibe, I think you have something to offer, and I want to invite you into my community.”

When I’m networking, I’m always keeping an ear out for “Would this person be a good guest on my show?” and “Do I want to spend more time with this person and get to know them better.” Most people are flattered to be invited on a podcast and see the value in sharing their expertise with a new audience.

2.       An opportunity to build trust

When you invite someone on your show, you’re telling them that you trust them enough to share their message with your community. Also, they’re literally your guest so it gives you the opportunity to show them how you treat people inside your community.

Because being a guest on a podcast is a process, you get several opportunities to engage - before, during and after the podcast - and to build trust through your interactions. As an interviewer you gain trust by holding space for them to shine as a guest on your show.

3.       Open the door for future collaborations

Collaboration starts from the moment they say ‘yes’ to being on your podcast. For some guests. we do a pre-interview where we literally create the direction of the show together, refining the topic and crafting questions. I get to see how their brain works, if we vibe, and if we’re a good fit for future collaborations.

Other ways to work together include being a guest on their podcast, doing a lead magnet swap, doing a live event together, writing a blog for their website, being an affiliate partner, sponsorship…the list is endless.

4.       Expand your reach

When your guest share their episode with their community, you get introduced to their audience and vice versa so it’s a win-win for both of you. You also now have someone who you can ask for guest recommendations and introductions. If you liked them as a guest, chances are you’re going to like people within their network and they can be a great source for guests.

Your podcast is a valuable part of your business from brand awareness to authority building to networking tool for building genuine relationships.
